Marquand, Richard

Richard Marquand


Richard Marquand was born on April 17, 1938 in Cardiff, Wales, UK.  He was the son of Hon. Ret. Hilary Adair Marquand (Labour) and Ray Rees and was the brother of Labourist David Marquand.  He was also the grandson of Hilary Marquand (Victorian Master Mariner) and editor Eric B. Marquand.

Marquand joined the Royal Air Force in 1959 where he served in the Far East and he was educated at Université d'Aix-Marseille, France and at King's College Cambridge (Modern Languages).  

By 1963 he was starting to pursue a career in film and was working as a documentary director for the BBC, working with James Cameron producing the documentaries.  And by the 1970's he was working in the US but had also worked as a TV newscaster, TV host and director in Hong Kong.

Marquand died on September 4, 1987 in Los Angeles, CA of a heart attack after a major stroke.
