Eaton attended the Katherine Delmar Burke School where she graduated in 1920.
Eaton had planned to become an architect or a commercial artist so she studied architecture at the Art Institute of Boston (Howard Walker School of Fine Arts).
In 1924, Eaton traveled to study art in Florence, Italy (a year at the state art school created by Mussolini) where she learned fresco painting, taught by cubist artist Andre L'Hote in the south of France as well as studying art in Paris. L'Hote had wanted Eaton to have an exhibition, but the divorce of her father and her step mother, Edith C. Eaton, brought her back to California where she lived for a time at the *Juana Briones de Miranda house - purchased by her newly divorced step-mother Edith C. Eaton who had turned the house into a small art colony. *Juana Briones de Miranda was a pioneer and business woman in Palo Alto, and the founding mother of San Francisco.
Eaton joined the art colony in Taos, New Mexico from 1928 to 1932, where she traveled to northern Mexico and worked with Diego Rivera and frequently visited Rivera and Frida Kahlo at their home. From 1933-1934 she had traveled to New York where she studied under Hans Hofmann at the Art Students League of New York, and worked with Arshile Gorky.
She returned to Taos from 1934 to 1937 where she began a relationship with Juan Mirabel, son of the Taos Pueblo Chief Geronimo (Jerry) Mirabal, and painted him during her time there.

Eaton was unable to make a living as a woman artist, so she turned her focus to the dramatic arts and became an actress in theatre, film, and TV.
Eaton died in her sleep on April 21, 1986 in Palo Alto, Santa Clara, CA, after suffering a stroke in March of 1986.
