Dowdall, Jim

Jim Dowdall

Jim Dowdall (né James Derek Christopher Dowdall)  was born in October of 1948 to ...father (advertising) mother (née Conningham) in Hammersmith, London, England, UK.

In 1956, Dowdall attended Hill House School in Knightsbridge, he was a classmate of Prince Charles and once made the tabloids' front pages (including The Daily Sketch) for a supposed foul against the young Prince. It was at Hill House that Jim was also a gymnastics champion.

Jim Dowdall has been a stunt performer and coordinator since the late 1960s, but his first work was as a trainee trapeze catcher/artist, and working with the big cats (beastman) in the Bertram Mills Circus. After the circus he had a few jobs which included washing cars at a funeral directors, selling motorcycles, a Christmas job working at Harrod's, he then found work with Bapty & Co (a prop and wardrobe place) as an armorer for three years, ending in 1970 when he joined the Parachute Regiment in the Army (UK) and won the Champion Recruit Cup, two years later he damaged two vertebrae and was forced to leave.
By 1972 he had been an extra (background artist, with the UGLY agency and others) earning his Equity Union card, been an assistant director, and then began working as a stuntman.  He traveled all the way to San Francisco, CA to perform with the British Tourney of Knights as a jouster at The Cow Palace...at that point he was regularly doing stuntwork and continued for the next 40+ years.

In 1991, Dowdall was married to Beverley A. Clark (naturopath), he parachuted into the churchyard from a helicopter.  They have a grown daughter.
