Marton Csokas

Márton Csókás (Cho-kash) was born on June 30, 1966 in New Zealand to Márton Csókás (Hungarian mechanical engineer was was trained as an opera singer and one time trapeze artist), and Margaret Christine Csókás (née Rayner - nurse). Csókás' father had immigrated to New Zealand from Hungary after WWII where he met and married Margaret Rayner, they lived on a farm.

Csókás did not start out wanting to be an actor, but on a trip to London when he was 19, he had made a stop in a bookshop and picked up a copy of Marin Esslin's The Theatre of the Absurd and started reading...he was inspired.  After he returned from his trip he attended the University of Canterbury (for a year) then went into an 6 months art program in Christchurch, New Zealand. He went on to attend and graduate from the Te Kura Toi Whakaari o Aotearoa/New Zealand Drama School in 1989.
