Sketch of Joe Alaskey by L. Mangue

Joseph Francis Alaskey III was born on April 17, 1952 in Troy (Watervliet), New York to Joseph Francis Alaskey, Jr. (WW II Veteran, train conductor) and Gladys Baker Alaskey.  He had two sisters, Donna and JoAnne.
Alaskey started putting on comedy shows (charging a nickle a head) at the age of 10. By the time he reached high school (Lasalle Institute in Troy, NY - graduating in 1969) he was quite aware of the positive aspect of the skills he was gifted.  He spent a year at Siena College in Albany, NY before opting to head to New York City to pursue stand-up comedy in clubs, all the while working in stage productions such as "Waiting for Godot," "Tartuffe," and "Jesus Christ Superstar."
As a stand-up impressionist/comedian he was a perfect match for a Boston morning radio show, Bill Scott (and June Foray) were guests on one of the shows, and it was immediately evident to Scott that Alaskey had a gift which needed to be pushed in the right direction.  Scott convinced Joe to come to Hollywood where his talent could be put to work.
Alaskey had an incredible ear for voices and how to re-create them, he took over many of the voices that Mel Blanc was doing for Warner Brothers Cartoons.  He was one of the most employed voice actors going and one of the few employed voice actors by Warner Bros. to do all the famous characters.
The scope of Alaskey's mastery is nearly undetectable in The Honeymooners' Lost Episodes, where some portions of Ralph Kramden's voice were lost due to technical problems...Joe Alaskey was the one to re-create Gleason's voice for the character.

Alaskey died in Los Angeles, CA on February 3, 2016 after a battle with cancer.

2010 - Did the voice of Bugs Bunny for TomTom GPS devices

1995 - Sang "Can't Buy Me Love" (The Beatles) in Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck/

1989 - Two 1-man shows written: Q & A and An Evening with Joe Alaskey

1985+ - Moved to Los Angeles from Boston

1980s - Stand Up Comedian (out of Boston) - Here's a sample:

Discovered by Bill Scott (voice of Bullwinkle J. Moose) in Albany, NY - Excerpt from The Lewiston Journal May 30, 1989: "Bill Scott was on tour for the 25th anniversary of 'Rocky and Bullwinkle...'" "He came to Boston and we did some sketches on the radio show, Bill's the voice of Bullwinkle.  I did Boris Badenov and William Conrad, the announcer, Bill said I did the best version of the voices he had heard.  He said if I came to Los Angeles he'd help me find work. He was true to his word. He now only found me work but even moved me into my apartment. Then before I knew it I was on David Letterman's show. That got me all kinds of offers from agents. Then I was an actor again."

Joe's favorite collectibles are any or Carl Bark's Disney work and Silver Age DC and Marvel Books. A more current pick was Madman.
